JustSayGO Travel Show
We're wrapping up production on this exciting new show. Featuring California, Singapore, Mexico and destinations throughout the US in the first few episodes! Stay tuned!!
A
must-see this spring is the International Flower and Garden Festival
located at Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida. The Festival runs
from April 15 through June 5, 2005. This event showcases flowers from
around the world including America, Mexico, Norway, China, Germany,
Italy, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom and Canada.
Visitors will be greeted at the gateway by a rotating topiary of Tinkerbell. Near this gateway is the World Showcase Plaza, which features mini gardens that incorporate topiaries of Beauty and the Beast and Lion King as well as Mickey and his friends in a salute to the Happiest Celebration on Earth. Also part of the gateway is Minnie's Butterfly Garden. This is an enclosure with hundreds of live butterflies sure to amaze both young and old! While you're at the entrance start looking for the 50 hidden Mickey Mouse figures hidden amongst the exhibits created especially for the festival.
My
family enjoyed the Imagination Walkway, which includes Farmer Mickey's
Maze and The Story of Roses. Farmer Mickey's Maze was created for small
children, ages 2-6. This maze features beautiful collections of flowers
and herbs designed by garden experts from The Home Depot. A small playground
in the enclosure allows children to burn off some energy while adults
collect some great ideas for their home gardens and patios. Designers
of this unique maze also created a large-scale garden, complete with
pretend vegetables and garden tools so youngsters can plant a garden
while under a protective awning. Rose fans will enjoy The Story of Roses,
which features dozens of rose bushes along the walkway that will bloom
throughout the festival. At the end of this walkway we were greeted
by two frenzied gardeners in a flower covered golf cart, which only
added to the fun atmosphere of this festival.
The real journey begins when you start your trek around the outermost circle of Epcot. We began at Canada and ended in Mexico; the walk took about eight hours total. I would encourage anyone visiting this festival to take their time and enjoy all of the scenery, individual exhibits and delicious foods at each country along the way. Favorites of ours included the Fish and Chips in the United Kingdom, candied nuts in Germany and the many pastries and coffee offered in France.
A
very special treat midway through the walk is the Bavarian miniature
train exhibit. Two miniature trains wind their way amongst tiny buildings
and flora on a hillside. Another beautiful point of interest is the
Fragrance Garden in France and the Phyto-forms in the Future World West.
A nice place to visit and sit down for a respite is the Japanese kinetic
garden. Water and bells mixed with the architecture and flower arrangements
make this a very soothing place to rest your feet. Children will enjoy
the variety of water fountains and rides along the way. There are ferry
boat rides, a leisurely boat ride inside of the Mexico exhibit and a
thrilling boat ride inside of the Norway building featuring their legendary
Trolls.
The
serious gardener will not be disappointed at this festival. There are
many ongoing demonstrations and programs from Great American Gardeners
and Disney Gardening at Home. Special guest speakers include Paul James
(Gardening By the Yard), Georgia Tasker (author of Wild Things- The
Return of Native Plants and Florida Gardeners Guide), Raymond Western
(Guerlain perfume specialist), Robert Bowden, Linda Blondheim, Tom Turpin
and Tom MacCubbin. Disney gardening experts will be holding informative
sessions from container gardening to bonsai growing. An added bonus
to the outdoor programs is the location- a fabulous patio next to a
fenced in children's playground. The intimate atmosphere makes it easy
to learn and ask questions of the presenters.
If you are able to sustain your energy after a fun filled day at the festival you will be treated to musical performances beginning in the early evening from the Flower Power Concert Series. Performers include Davy Jones, Arlo Guthrie, The Nelsons, Eric Burdon and The Animals among many others.
This
festival truly offers something for everyone. Bring your comfortable
walking shoes, a camera and enjoy this flower and garden spectacular!
Road weary travelers can rent scooters at the entryway to make the
visit more enjoyable. For more information on this festival visit: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/ and
