Welcome to JustSayGo.com's TraveLetter
Just
back from Jordan and still wiping the desert
dust off my walking shoes. Although Petra was
the trip's focus, and part of a press tour
for the Petra Exhibit at Calvin College in
Michigan from April 4 through August 15, 2005.
Jordan offered more than a few breathtaking
miles of the Lost City carved into rose-red
stone mountains. You may remember a glimpse
in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Well, there's no comparison between an onscreen
peek and gazing upwards a few hundred feet
at towering hand-carved facades. I'm off to
Maine on another assignment, but before I go
I want to wish you happy traveling. Take that
first step and reserve that airline ticket,
book that hotel room or cabin. C'mon, Just
Say Go and then GO! |

TRAVEL
EASE — Baggallini Essential
Bag
Taking
the Essential Travel.Bagg on the
trek through Jordan was an easy call
for a journalist always searching
for places to store note books, and
other equipment. Inside the Essential
there are two removable thick pads
to cushion a delicate laptops. On
this trip that compartment was used
to protect a Nikon 8800 and its gear.
The Essential surpassed every expectation
and was filled-to-the-brim as a carry-on
during the 12-hour flight to Jordan.
Once at the hotel, after it was stripped
of airplane necessities, it was worn
as a light backpack through the country's
canyons and deserts. The ballistic
nylon bag is advertised as 14 by
11 by 7.5 inches, but easily expands
beyond those measurements or compresses,
depending on what you pack. The bag
can be held with two handles, strengthened
by a Velcro™ and nylon clasp,
or with backpack straps, easily stored
in a small back compartment. There's
even room for Baggallini's packable
tote. The Essential ($79.95), along
with a host of other offerings, is
available at travel stores and at www.baggallini.com.
Is
there something you'd like reviewed? Let us know before
buying a new travel item. We'll let
you know if it meets JSG's standards. |
TRAVEL
TIP
Unfortunately,
there are times when checking luggage
with an airline means checking away,
clothes, toiletries and other necessities.
This recently happened to a fellow
travel writer. As a seasoned traveler,
she dealt with it. But, seasoned
or not, it's unnerving. Here's some
advice from Just Say Go. Make sure
to pack one change of clothes and
all medications in your carry on
bag. Hotels always have extra toothbrushes
and paste and will go to great lengths
to get whatever else you need.

BOOKS: More FOOD FEASTs
Instead
of a travel tome, this month we read The
Gourmet Cookbook with more than 1,000 recipes
taken from the last six decades. Reichl, editor-in-chief
of Gourmet and the author of Tender
to the Bone and Comfort
Me with Apples, isn't making her food fare in
Tuscany or France, but odds are the locals there
would give the Tuscan-style roast port and lemon
souffle tart more than a few thumbs up. The 1040
page book is a must-have for cookbook lovers who
enjoy, not only making the fabulous recipes, but
reading it for sheer pleasure. The book is available
in most bookstores or at Amazon at www.amazon.com for
about $40.
